Where we place the burden of truth or fact affects how we make our decisions. Some folks are willing to do stuff until the evidence clearly exists that it should not be done. Others won't do stuff until the evidence exists it should be done. Often the data and meaningful, unbiased analysis are not available; what do we do? Mostly we live between extremes, to varying degrees, and do what we can. Then, of course, there are the human biases. Generally, folks don't like to examine themselves honestly and don't really know their beliefs, motive/expectations, and strategies. That is a personal endeavour and I'm not about lecture people or speculate at their motivations and expectations when it comes to audio. But they do exist and they do shape behaviour and decision-making, even when conclusive evidence exists. But I do question it, on occasion.
As for EML, we don't know the extent of their evidence or analysis or how it might apply outside their own tubes. Other tube manufacturers provide guidelines for filament voltage. I tend to follow it: their requirements are easily met, even if it costs marginally more in the context of a build and has few if any negatives. Others differ and that's their decision.
