What I haven't seen addressed hear is the fact that power transformers in the real world have parasitics like leakage inductance and winding capacitance that form a tank circuit. Drawing current in sharp, repetitive spikes will excite that resonance, like hitting a bell with a hammer 120 times/sec. That can be seen by your scope (take a small toroidal core and wrap several turns of mag. wire around it, connect your scope and pass the output lead from power transformer through the core). If not snubbed it can and will bleed into the audio circuit. Most capacitors have trouble filtering high frequencies due to the interaction of lead inductance with their capacitance. A kelvin connection helps; but it's not a cure-all. Anytime I run into a cap input supply I always snub it. Best way to determine critical damping is empirically with a scope.
