RE: Salectric has a very simple & effective solution! n.t.

I rebuilt a Jolida "Integrated" amp for someone who wanted to use it as a power amp with a Meredian (sp?) surround processor. The specs on the Meredian indicated 30dB of gain. I measured 32dB gain on the Jolida. I replaced the volume control with a three position attenuator I cobbled together that "tamed" the Jolida to 14db, 20dB, and 26dB of gain. Seemed like such a waste to throw away so much gain, but I didn't want to have to change basic circuit like replace input 12AX7 with lower gain tube and then futz with the feedback network. Amp sounded good and the Jolida owner was happy with the result.
