RE: A modest proposal (with apologies to Jonathan Swift)

I have not posted or lurked here often lately. The devolution of community and paucity of collaboration are the main reasons. I think DrLowMu was the catalyst but not the sole player. The good Dr has moved on but the behaviours have remained.

Forums can be curious things: bringing together people, each having different expectations and strategies and opaquely "communicating" through some clunky technology. Ideally, a forum could attract people with similar expectations, support diversity, effectively collaborate... or at lease where this does not occur, have rules/codes of conduct and sufficient leadership to assure a modicum of functionality.

I don't know that I can be honest and respond in a way that would help or satisfy you vinnie. I've tried - and still am, apparently. If I respond with an opinion/advice, no matter how well elucidated, your past form suggests you will select small parts out of context as points of argument and ignore the intended message. Lew's post below is one in many examples of that.

I could parse out your post and respond directly, but that limits the potential for meaningful discussion, especially when the answers you might benefit from lay outside the questions you ask. There is also a high likelihood you would find this confronting and respond aggressively.

Frankly, your comments and reactions suggest you are not looking to learn; that you are seeking validation would be my guess. If validation is not forthcoming, perceiving you have won an argument will suffice (even if "won" is debatable and the argument is fallacious/pointless).

You've made clear how the forum can help you. I ask, is sustainable? How many new technical tube-savy members are we expecting on this forum? For how long do you think they should be willing to help someone unwilling to help themselves... and becomes aggressive when not receiving the type of response expected? Perhaps more importantly: how will you help the forum?

Maybe parsing your post and responding to your comments would be more direct... but I just don't see how that would help you. Do you want honest responses or do you seek agreement?
