RE: this may be of interest regarding THD and IM

A buddy of mine bought one of those amps after reading that Stereophile review. I've worked on it a couple of times for him. In designing that amp Dennis paid very little attention to the B+ and filament power supplies. Silicon rectifiers in the B+ supply with no attempt at snubbing. A cap input B+ PS with a big cap and nothing to suppress the resultant transformer ringing. Filaments for input and driver: silicon bridge, cap, 3 pin reg. 300B? Silicon bridge and cap. As a result there is an undercurrent of "nastiness" that no tube rolling can eliminate, much to my buddies disappointment.
