Or in my case a differential driver with an IT load and a CCS "tail".

I have some experience with adding a CCS/shunt reg. to a SE phono pre with cascode CCS plate loads. The change to the sound caught me off guard. Once I heard the difference there was no going back. Was surprised though because I had thought that with the high PSRR of CCS plate loads the reg. supply would be unnecessary.
