Apologies for my previous post. Trolling? No. Pointed? Yeah, maybe a bit.I enjoy seeing well-implemented builds other than compromised breadboards, which comprise a large proportion of build posts recently. I really appreciated the planning and effort put into T-K's build. It's uncommon and helps show what can be done DIY - it should be applauded.
As for your question: "Would you spend a bundle of time and money if you just wanted to hear what a particular amp sounds like?"
Well, I wouldn't build a highly-compromised breadboard (or chassis build for that matter) to hear how a particular amps sounds. You yourself have said that you don't hear much difference between the SE topologies, what are you achieving?
My preference is for understanding what can be achieved with different implementations of similar tubes, topologies etc. Seeing how different people approach the same design. Helping - and learning from - new builders. And although most of your breadboard issues are avoidable and take a lot of (other peoples') time to resolve, I do enjoy learning from some of them... but, as I said earlier, given the quantity of these, it's great to see something different.
But perhaps I'm part of that problem. I did not post by recent build here - I'll remedy that after voicing and ironing out a few technical issues. It sounds nice though: quite different my previous build using a similar topology and same tubes. Go figure.
