One could also argue that AC is superior because, during much of the cycle, the gradient is significantly less than the RMS (DC) value. It even goes to zero.

I'm not certain the degree of gradient is the issue, though. It may have something to do with the gradient's "constancy," rather than its maximum instantaneous value. Or, the gradient may not even be the cause.

One thing's for sure - the sonic difference in this 211 amplifier between DC and AC is remarkable. I know 25-50KHz isn't the ideal frequency, but at less than $15, the electronic transformers seem an easy experiment. I'll try one shortly and report back.
