Beats the hell out of a resister, and it gives you more flexibility because you have more plate voltage to work with if you want to explore different valves for the application. The sound only gets better where properly applied. This is just an active load device. It does not make the build a hybrid, if it did, all builds using SS rectification would be considered a hybrid...give it a try.
With all of this said, they are sensitive devices and they can get noisy but they still sound better then purely restrictive loading.
