Do It Yourself (DIY) paradise for tube and SET project builders.

RE: nice little triode wired SE 6v6

Let's try again:

"All you need to build an amp or other tube gear is a good schematic if that is all you want to do."

Irrelevant. I think your point is that you don't need to understand basic tube theory to build from a proven schematic, which may be true. In your case it is a straw man argument, because you don't just build proven schematics; you re-engineer.

"I am only vehement with those that tell me I have no right to just want to build gear and not learn how to design it, that I must spend time I don't have learning information I don't need to do what I want to do."

Not true. You aren't just vehement; you have attacked and insulted people that don't agree with you. People are happy for you just to build gear; where they suggest you learn some tube theory is when you wish to re-engineer. Time you don't have? Did you use a time machine to build 35+ amplifiers? How much time do you think it takes to learn some basics? Your posts suggest you want the benefit of the knowledge that comes with learning but don't want to learn it yourself. So you ask questions (poorly) and hide behind protestations of learning only by doing.

"That's like telling someone they have to be an automotive engineer before they can work on their car, and it makes about as much sense."

Not true. Another straw man argument. No one is telling you to learn to be an EE before building or designing amp circuits; people - many of whom have given you a lot of help - are suggesting some tube design basics.

Even Jeff, who was questioning of EEs, understood the basics of how SET amps work and could apply simple Ohm and Kirchhoff rules to design a simple SET amp. Some of his loads and capacitor values were not textbook, but I think he understood some of the technical implications. He still trusted his personal preferences to voice etc. which is fine (until you start making claims of absolute best and insult people etc.). Point being, some rules cannot be bent; some can be compromised or balanced to provide the desired result. Ya gotta understand some basics if you are designing.

I think people are suggesting:

Ultimately, it's your choice of course. But, people might get tired of helping you when they see you are unwilling to invest some of your own effort to learn or when you insult them because they disagree with you.
