RE: Anything new about the cathode bypass caps?

Not sure it is new (to you), I remember many years ago Thorsten's posts about experimenting with cathode cap types and sizing. He became an advocate of using film caps in preference to even the well-regarded electrolytics. DIYers often use film caps now.

At the tweaking edge, some experimenters are using atypical values (some would say undersized), multiple bypasses (paralleling different values), and cap construction types. I'm not as convinced of this approach as some...

My current approach is to calculate the desired cap size (and over rate the voltage requirements) then use a cap as close to (but greater than) that size that is likely to have the desired sonic characteristics.

It's likely I'll now be criticised for 1) wasting my money on films and 2) not going far enough with my use of films. :)

Cheers,
