I think you did a fine job of explaining the principle. This is why I use choke input supplies in all the audio equipment that I build. Those repetitive current spikes @60Hz will set a PS transformer to ringing unless the secondary has been carefully snubbed. Those spikes also generate harmonics of the line frequency up into the RF region. The loop created by the PS wiring can radiate that to the rest of the circuitry. It also can be injected back out the AC power cord and contaminate other equipment. Yuk. :~(
