RE: Choke loading is superior

I'd try configuring it as a self biased CF. Put the choke on the bottom and the bias resistor between the choke and the cathode. Connect the grid leak resistor to the connection between the the choke and bias resistor, no bypass cap. The grid leak resistor will be "bootstrapped" due to the signal voltage appearing on both ends multiplying its impedance to the input signal by a factor of about ten or more.
