Lew,
Here's a picture of them installed as cathode constant current sinks to the input diff. pair in my K&K Audio beta Venice phono pre. They are the daughter boards to the right of the tubes in the foreground. The pair of TO92 devices on the main board in front of the daughter boards are part of the input tube/MOSFET cascode diff. pair. The heat sink to the left of the tube holds the cascode MOSFET plate loads for the tubes. What's not shown is the CCS fed shunt reg. that provides B+ to the plate load CCSs. I count something like 14 active devices for one channel of the input stage. Add 6 for the CCS/shunt reg. and the total for the input stage is something like 34!
