RE: Shunt Pot Volume Control - Better Sound

I ran some numbers. At an attenuation of -12dB the output resistance of this attenuator is 22.6K. It doesn't drop below 5K until the attenuation reaches -26dB. Drops below 2.5K at an attenuation of -31.5dB. These are the source impedances that following gain stage will see. There are situations that won't tolerate high source impedances well and care should be exercised when implementing a shunt vol. control with 91K series resistance.

FWIW, in my experience adding a high series resistance in the signal path is like throwing a wet blanket on the dynamics of the music being reproduced and I try to avoid doing that if possible.
