bypassing

First off, I would like to reiterate what Michael Samra said: for a given system, the smallest coupling cap you can get away with is almost always going to sound better than a comparable larger capacitor.

An important corollary to this is that bypassing a smaller capacitor (0.47 uf for example) may be unnecessary [and/or not offer sonic improvement], while bypassing a larger capacitor (4 uf for example) is much more likely to offer benefits.

Finally: in my experience, bypassing caps in series with the signal is trickier than bypassing shunt capacitors...and the only way I know to obtain optimal results is through trial-and-error experimentation.
