IMHO, the aspect of Sakuma's work that is fascinating is his approach to power and signal grounding...that is frigging art.

I like the sound of IT coupling over RC coupling. With that said, if both are designed well, you will get magic from both.

Another method of coupling that will be cheaper and give you great loading would be to use a CCS on top of your driver, cap couple with a grid choke load to ground. It's obviously not Sakuma.

You seem to be a someone who is curious and willing to experiment so I would consider pursuing the EL84 build. The 845 build is something you should work up to. I'm assuming that you haven't been building for 10 years...keep in mind, if you pick out the right ITs you can leverage them for your next build...

If you have the experience and time, the 845 build would be interesting. Nasty high plate voltage, directly heated, IT coupled...If you do decide to pursue the 845, please be careful with the voltage...I've read about 845 builds with lower plate voltages.
