I was one of the people who build a low-voltage 845 amp (430-450V on the plate) about 10 years ago and was posting here actively. That amp got taken around all over New England and auditioned in various peoples homes and folks were hypnotized by how well it sounded.
Yes, it will work. Some points to cover:
1. At low B+ - it's far easier to acquire power supply parts and have a wide choice of transformer product to choose from (example Hammond). I used a Hammond 1629SE initially - and people loved it! Today, I use Electra-Print.
2. You can use a 6.6K OPT for 211 - you don't need to get a 10K OPT for this application. A 10K OPT is a much harder device to produce and "get right", ask around! Stick to 6K6 Load.
3. I used Interstage Coupling out of the gate. Back then, there weren;t many options. Today, there is an excellent 1:1 Interstage from Hammond that would fit your needs.
4. At 600V its impossible to screw up. The attached schematic is for an 845. You can vastly simplify this even more! If you went with my 845 design - instead of the 211 - you can build this very easily.
Enjoy
