RE: Omitting Attenuator

Anthony,

The resister to ground controls how much your grid goes negative which controls how much your tube conducts. If you omit this resister, your preamp tube will go wide open as far as current, when not connected to the passive. I did this once in error on a power tube...I could see the plates glowing from across the room ;> )
