The 1:4 is in a separate chassis (main amplifier) and has the secondary winding at -150VDC.

I did try initially with a 0V referenced input stage (RC coupled to the second stage, then) and noticed actual slight improvement substituting 180k 'grid leak' resistor with the input tx at 1:1, and no difference other than it being 'louder' at 1:2 and 1:4.

Problematic, yeah.. hard for me to understand all the ins and outs, too. Needing to lock in a value of coupling C, and the amplifier is in 'bits' at the moment so it needs to be a calculated thing rather than measured. Just hoping theres not more than meets the eye WRT resonance and Xc effect on drive impedance at LF etc.
