grab a multimeter and test at the socket outlet across live and neutral - 0V. Now test between live and earth, then neutral and earth. If you have an earth..
What I'm saying is just because you have 0V across the outlet, doesnt mean that each is at 0V WRT 0V.
Have seen before neutral at 240v (Oz)... and the circuit protection curiously stayed closed. Not a good thing.
