RE: OPT distortion cancellation w 2x SE OPT per channel?

Hi Dennis,

I need about 7W or so, and have built essentially the same amplifier with its 2A3 output stage from PP Class A, to differential, to PSE.

They were all good, moving from PP to differential with a CCS tail was about the largest single improvement, quite notable.

Moving to PSE was interesting, its more colorful and vivid, has better dynamics, it comes forward and envelopes you more, more front to back but its not as wide and with live music things arent as well placed in the image. Better for the most part, but still a compromise.

If I could find something cross between PSE and PP that would just about do it for me.

I understand that the amplifier would operate in PP, but also that it would have a different distortion pattern than the usual PP, in that it would cancel the 3H product as well as the 2H. And to my thinking less 3H would have it sounding more like the 2H dominated SE amplifier, and still give the advantages that I hear with the differential amplifier to the point where its worth a try.

Although I havent yet received answers to my direct questions about the article (at the end of the article write up), and still I've gleaned enough info from the replies to suggest that what the author writes is valid, and would be worthwhile for someone in my situation to build.

I've appreciated your reply, opinion and advice.

Shane
