RE: Choose: 300b SET or 2a3 PP?

Hi Andy,

Yes, we certainly are..

Do I think the LF performance advantage that you have with the PP2A3 over the SE is due to 2A3 v 300B. No, I dont. I think it has more to do with the amount of inductance that is loading the tube, and perhaps any LP poles that might be associated with an RC biased output stage.

With the PP amp, yes, as with the PSE amp input/driver are direct coupled.. I'll attach a schematic. It wont quite handle line voltage fluctuations well with regard to bias of the driver and output tube grid, I'll keep that one, but for an illustration it will suit the purpose nicely.

I hear what you say about the Type 26. Not sure if one can compare two of anything unless all else is the same. And on that, sometimes one part will work and another will not. For instance, battery heating a 26 isnt what I'd want to do and without doing it that way for the input stage, I might not be able to direct couple two stages without a large Rk on the second tube, with its associated bypass cap. No so simple comparison anymore.

Regards,
Shane
