I won't jump into the linearity discussion because I basically agree but I contend that a well executed Pentode amp will yield pleasing results with attributes that a SET will not necessarily readily provide.
I believe that Harvey Gizmo Rosenberg called it "Flavor".
I just despise absolute statements about a subject that has endless variables. I feel that it can drive folks away and/or stifle discussion.
In short keep the mind open and build and let the ear confirm...this is DIY..
