I built a Blue Velvet a few years ago. I have a real affection for the 6SN7. I have found the preamp to have a pleasing presentation without any hit of too much feedback from the plate follower. No noised to report from the VRs.
I have since built a parafeed 5687 line stage with LL1674 outputs and the difference in detail and sound stage is obvious but I wouldn't consider a Blue Velvet a non-starter for someone who wants a good sounding Line Stage without busting their banks with signal iron and chokes. You don't have to use the pricey caps that Mr. Oshler prefers.
