When you run out of bass and midrange it's either that you have too much bias current running through the driver tube, or, the manufacturer didn't built and test the part! (Sizing the core for signal flux, installing gap etc)

That's even more serious... Too much interwinding capacitance.
If you had both problems on the same part - the manufacturer should be ashasmed of themselves.
