I can comment on the Mk3 version S&B. It sounds just as good as a direct connection when driven with 150ohms and loaded with an open grid (01A) and doesnt seem to suffer at any level of annenuation.. I'd say the implementation is key.

Also suspect Thomas may be correct WRT opamps.. I was driving it with OPA861 as a buffer and it was better with a series cap, even though it needed to be 4uF or so to get full BW. It did sound better.. yeah, I know.. go figure.

Tried it with a SS Amp and can safely say that if you load it with 20k it sucks.
