Sounds like fun, hope you're doing this for the experience and fun and not expecting to have the "Why haven't I done this before" experience. ;> )
Your loading resister will be heard. Look at the amp as if the sine wave travels through it as a whole.
I'd stick to decent carbons (cheaper), NI Wirewounds or if you have money to burn ..Tants.
The metal oxide types should be tried after you have tried the above first...;> )
