Home Tube DIY Asylum

Do It Yourself (DIY) paradise for tube and SET project builders.

Do you have another 5AR4 (preferably USA or Mullard Brand) that you could substitute??

I tried the Sovtek 5AR4/GZ34 a few years ago out of curiosity and I had a lot of problems (arcing just as you described) with them. I'm certainly no expert, but your "layout" sounds reasonable to me, although I'd use a bit less capacitance myself. I'd start off with a new rectifier tube, even a 5U4G, to see if the Sovtek isn't the problem. Good Luck, regards, wpod
