Yes the valve becomes more linear, but it's ability to drive is compromised. At the end of the day, the application is key. This is another one of those "Subjective" audio debates. I'd listen to the design bypassed and unbypassed. I've done this with my builds and I always put the cap back in place...but that's my application and my ears.
