Besides being a shy of mu, the 1660 primary inductance might not be able to propoerly load a valve with a plate resistance of 6K. An approach to maintain the simplicity of a two stage amp would be to use a 5842 which has ample mu and low plate resistance. Great driver...just has the tendency to oscilate. If you choose the 5842, be sure to use grid stoppers on all 4 grid pins and a ferrite bead on the filament wires. This valve drives my vt52s and 50s very nicely.
