My ears must be solid tin.
One of the best sounding amps I've ever heard runs its EL34s at 90-95% dissipation. A custom amp that its owner, a brilliant and hard working designer worked on for ten years before being satisfied with, it is nothing short of amazing.[The designer built many amps of SE & PP types before settling on this final design. Not to mention auditioning lots of OPTs]
I'm sure the other folks who've listened to this fellow's system completely agree.
The EL34 is hardly an oddball tube.
I don't seek to convince Drlowmu, only to point out to others that there are those who would disagree with the low bias current argument.
