I've also seen them labeled 5AR4, believe it or not! But I meant a properly labeled tube. The 6106 isn't a 5Y3WGTA any more than it's a 5AR4.
"The gain stage tube seems to handle the extra VDC ok & the power tube is cathode-biased 6V6GT. The amp has quite a nice tone. Bass seems better than stock GE 5Y3GT that came with the amp."
The change in operating point makes a head-to-head comparison of rectifiers impossible. Often people mistake changes in B+ for changes in the quality of the recto, it's easy to forget what 25 more volts B+ can do to change the operating points.
"Does your 6106 put out the same PIV as the stock 5Y3GT's?"
Just FYI, PIV means "peak inverse voltage". That's the voltage at which the tube will break down and pass current in the opposite of the "normal" direction. Of course some tubes will exceed the spec before breaking down, but I observe that spec religiously.
As far as voltage drop across the rectifier, IIRC the 6106 did have a bit less drop. But it depends on the current drawn through it, etc. It's been a few years so I can't recall how much difference there was.
I saved 2 Bendix 6106 for myself, I suppose someday I should measure the drop, but that's item #976 on my to-do list! :~)
