RE: SS rectifiers for 5y3 types.

Its been my experience to stay with the tube the unit was designed with..Don't forget these tubes were all available at the preamp was designed as were solid state diodes and being its a nice sounding preamp I would assume the engineers chose the 5y3 for good reason..You can go with military or industrial version of the 5y3 like Jim says but that would be about it.Remember a preamp isn't producing and any real power output so there is no sense getting crazy thinking your going to produce some euphoria with a simple rectifier change..You would have to do a complete circuit overhaul to make it worthwhile.
