I am using a 5y3 rectifier in my preamp and was pondering putting in a solid state rectifier just to guage the results. I was browsing at several plug-in octal solid state rectifiers (Weber Copper Cap, and the 1N2389 for example) but I have no idea how well they perform in critical audio playback. Before I buy them, I was wondering if any of you use them and what your impressions are.
I could just bypass the octal base and put some modern fast recoveries in there, but it's more effort and it's sloppy.
