RE: Why am I driving myself wacky?

Good question.

I should probably go down to Best Buy and let the experts put together a great new SOTA transistor system for me with surround sound and all that great stuff. But, I started out wacky, so here I am.

I've now listened to the Citation II with the new P/S, even though the diodes need to be doubled up. The difference over what I had before is startling and was well worth the work put in. I don't know how good the Schottkys would have been (they helped out in heater and regulator low voltage supplies quite nicely), but I doubt they would be as smooth and three dimensional as are the 6DN3's.
