that is the total kick in the pants... to have your test gear lie to you... it just isn't fair!
thank god some people will still defend their ears... i have found the overshoot you talk of on a 10K square wave to be by far the best compromise... i jumped through hoops to get an unloaded near perfect 10K square wave without loading... every time i tweeked it to get the scope happier, the sound got worse.. it was really a tough pill to swallow.
side note.... "amorphous" is a very broad word... there are cobalt amorphous cores that saturate before 80% nickel that come in very small sizes, and large low loss amorphous cores designed for low loss power distribution... the whole keyword that surrounds the name seems to be efficiency...or low loss... which is like saying narrow BH loop.
