I feel your pain. I've got a pair of TJ Full Music mesh plate 300B tubes from China and 1 tube appears to be dieing. At $280 usd a pair, that's not cheap and, what use is a pair when 1 tube is not going right?

IMO I think you're better to put most of the $ into a better output transformer than to any other component in the 300B amp (SET that is). $100 sounds a bit low - but who knows, that particular pair you have may be excellent for your ears. You could always upgrade later on though, why bother going through the effort when you could use a decently made OPT at the start?

$1000 is prety much borderline to put together a stereo 300B amp using the cheapest components available. SS rectification, choke-less power supply, all these will drop the cost of the project. But then your end results may be unsatisfactory...
