Hello Dave,this is actually an intrigueing thought - using a high current damper
diode for colour TV as B+/load delay for mercury rectifiers.Catode connected to center tap of the power transformer, anode to
ground, and heater to whatever available supply - for most booster/
damper diodes the isolation between heater and catode is good for
1 kV or more... and most dampers have a turn-on delay of > 30 sec for
that reason.I am going to try it - still have some EY500s somewhere...

PS: Little warning with underheating indirectly heated catodes. This
seems to increase the noise figure significantly - wrt the shot noise
and 1/f noise... so you should have a look at the S/N ratio of your
amp after...
