i took it quite the opposite... both mv and glow discharge tubes genereate hf noise, but i was under the impression that it was a very broadband noise and not the "hashy" noise many are concerned with. what mark put fourth suggests to me that both mv and glow discharge tubes while generating broadband noise, will tend to suppress narrow bandwidth (spikey) noise due to the series L.if you get into the concept that mercury vapor is different than neon argon xenon or whatever gas happens to be needed for a certain voltage... then we have to start taking each glow discharge by the gasses it contains.
maybe two OD75's in series sounds better than a singel VR150 :-)
