Relevance at AF

Yes it is relevant at audio frequencies. The impedance of the glow diode rises steadily from a value around 100 ohms at low frequencies to a value over 1k at 20 kHz. Depending on what it's doing in the circuit, this can be quite significant. I like my shunts to have low and constant impedance, so this must be compensated.

How do you know passing a signal through a glow diode would sound horrible? Have you tried it? It could be quite useful instead of a plate resistor on the non-inverting half of a triode diff amp, for instance. These things have many uses we haven't thought of yet. Certainly more than the rstriction to screen bypass duties your post suggests.

There are more things under heaven and earth, my dear Horatio than are dreamed of in your philosophy.
