Well, Jeff, you certainly must have a better (more critical) ear than do I. I've played with various kinds of speaker cables and 'line' cables (the ones with the RCA plugs on each end) and have never heard any differance. With one exception - I tried sharing a ground between two remotely located speakers and could notice the IMD (intermodulation distortion). Specifically, I used a 75 foot run of 12-3 wire (3 wires, common ground). But the reason for the distortion is obvious once you think about it - the voltage induced across the ground wire by the current in speaker 1 is applied to speaker 2, and vice versa. Now that WAS noticable.I even was guliable enough to replace my Svetlanna EF86 with an expensive Amperex 'Bugle Boy' EF86. Again, old 'tin ear' could not hear the difference.
Say, maybe I'll change my moniker to 'tin ear'.
By the way, have you ever listened to a live band concert? It sounds like crap - squeaky, tinny, and, well brassy. But you know, that IS the way a band should sound. Perhaps accuracy is more important than 'better'.
