As to part of Ralph's response, build it linear.

I don't agree on the 'gaiin reduction' bit. That can be what ever it needs to be( more or less), but the output Z is the bit it is quite good for. You of course need to build in more gain to use NFB, but that is just the design part.

And no, I don't like SE loops of NFB going back to front( or nearly so ). A two stage, running balanced local FB looks quite good to me.
