RE: "the slow warmup of the 5AR4"

Wow, 420-0-420 translates to a LOT of unloaded voltage! I think this deserves a larger chassis like you suggested, but I'd be thinking about 300V or 350V caps in series instead of can caps. This is one of the issues I have about rebuilding my Citation V. All the upgrade kits use 500V caps, but the supply voltage is nearly that high even after the tubes conduct, thanks to the high line voltage here. I might eventually decide to redesign the supply and mill a new shelf for the caps. The alternative is to add a bucking transformer to my system and use the cap kit from Jim McShane. Guess I'll need to make this decision in the next few months.
