Home Tube DIY Asylum

Do It Yourself (DIY) paradise for tube and SET project builders.

RE: An unrelated question,

The amps being discussed are the first
pair ever built-- it was in 1989.

Since people buy and sell amps all the time,
the owner has the right to sell them if
he wants-- they are his property!

There are NO tube changes-- the latest
version still uses (1) 7B4-- still the best driver
ever listened to, (1) 2A3, and (1) 5U4GB.

Direct-coupled, efficient and very powerful
and clean on a speaker that it can drive.

A variation on this theme uses the 12BZ7A in place
of the 7B4. It is run at higher plate current, so
the amp delivers more power.

It works just as well
because the larger, taller build of the 12BZ7A
allows an efficiency increase in sensitivity-to-signal
that allows a MODEST increase of driver plate current
to drive the output 2A3 harder, WITHOUT sacrificing
the superb detailing and clean dynamics of the 7B4.

Both drivers are rated at amp-factor 100, which is
perfect to DC-drive a 2A3 output tube without having to add
a transparency & speed-robbing 3rd stage of amplification..

BOTH amp choices are in stock.

ANOTHER MODEL is also available. Perfected before its
introduction earlier this year, this is also a D.C.-
couple, using (1) 6E6P, (1) KT-150, and (2) 5U4GB.

The 3 kinds of amps are being built and are in stock,
and the 3 types all enjoy zero global feedback..

The Gentleman who got the old 1989 model won't be
hurting-- it will outperform most other amps when
it comes to real music if he runs really top-notch
Hi-Efficiency speakers that have large surface-area
radiators.. in large, efficient cabinets.

Subwoofers or an extra "bass amp" is never needed,
as the bass response is clean, fast, and goes very deep.

This is because low-DCR overdesigned power supplies,
that are also fast in response allow the use of standard,
hi-efficiency woofers, driven by standard, but well designed,
passive crossover networks, so it's bye-bye to unwanted
extra subwoofers, and associated "bass" amps-- they're not
needed, and are not wanted..

Well, now one can choose from 3 kinds of amps here.
