RE: The caps in question

From the schematic we now know the 10uf is the output coupling cap and its value is not critical to the circuit itself but rather only for adequate coupling to the load on the preamp.

The OP says he's using an EL84 amp. It most likely has a high input impedance in the range of 100K or higher. Therefore, the 10uf value is much higher than needed. It could be replaced with a better sounding cap with a value of 1uf or even 0.47uf and still have full LF extension.

Of course, if the preamp were to be used with a solid state amp with a much lower input impedance like 10K then you would need a higher value coupling cap.
