I think it is largely a means to get rid of 'other than signal' voltage present that is due to grid current. This grid current is not the wholesale effect one would apply to an 811 to get it operational in a moderate voltage, class A circuit...but given the value of the grid circuit I think reducing it is a good idea. This requires a lower resistance grid circuit.
I am not quite ready to buy the, 'anything less than X Ohms' does that job well enough. Resistance in this case is an entirely linear quantity. Cut it in half and the effect is also halved. You can go right ahead and tell me where you think it is good enough. IME, if the driver is not taxed by driving it, make it a wee bit lower until *THAT effect needs consideration... :)
Clearly at some point, the grid circuit will exceed the driver's capability and another sort of rot will set in.
