Tubes are amazingly forgiving; you can make horrendous errors in setting up a circuit, and still you may get good sound. But that usually means that if you revise the circuit to take the best advantage of the 6SN7 (in this case), your result may far surpass what some other guy gets by just plugging 6SN7s into a circuit designed for 6dj8. I was also thinking that of the 4 tubes, perhaps two of them are used as cathode followers in the circuit. The 6dj8 makes a perfectly good cathode follower, and cathode followers don't have much effect on sonics, if done right, because they add no gain. So, if you could determine which tubes are doing what in the circuit, perhaps you could replace just two out of 4 with 6SN7s, the two two tubes that do supply gain. I may be off base, perhaps none of the tubes is acting as a CF.
