It's 40 years ago I did this. I think the pins looked cleaner but the important thing is they were etched a bit so could be soldered to. What happened after that, I don't know.
We did this as it was way easier than cleaning them individually and where I was working, there was a huge drum of the stuff just sitting there; an aviation welding shop.
