RE: 7-Pin Miniatures

Funny you said that. The amps I'm building will be re-makes of several commercial integrated amps and receivers that I'm converting to straight stereo power amps. I've been wanting to stay with the original designs as much as possible, simply because I'm familiar with the sound. All of them use cathodyne splitters, but some have a triode in front, others a pentode. I'm beginning to think it might be better to forego original design and use a pentode in all of them. Miller capacitance is a problem, and the originals used various tricks around the volume or tone controls (which won't exist in my amps) to compensate. As for the CCS, you know I don't compromise my work by allowing silicon to contaminate the signal path. And practically speaking, any of the popular pentodes will provide more than enough gain in this position without resorting to that. Just to be clear, I appreciate your input on projects like this, even if we don't always agree about the various techniques. There's plenty of room for everyone's preferences in this field. :)
